Causes of potency problems

October 29, 2019

Erectile dysfunction is the inability to have a full erection or to maintain it long enough to have intercourse. Studies show that these problems affect all age groups of men. While occasional and short-term erectile dysfunction is not a cause for concern, we must be concerned when it lasts a long time.

Loss of fitness with age

Most of the problems are with older men. They are most often associated with ageing and the production of less and less testosterone. This is a natural phenomenon. After twenty-five years of age, the amount of testosterone produced by the body decreases systematically.

Unhealthy lifestyle

Improper lifestyle, poor diet and lack of exercise are the causes of potency problems already in young men. They have a negative effect on the circulatory system, which has a direct impact on sexual performance. They can also lead to obesity and thus exacerbate the problem. Watch out for stimulants as well. Smoking a pack of cigarettes a day has been shown to increase the risk by up to 75 percent! Alcohol abuse and drug use (especially opioids, marijuana and cocaine) are also harmful.

Psychological problems

One of the most frequent and at the same time most underestimated causes of erectile dysfunction are psychological problems, i.e. the so-called psychogenic factors. In many cases, they raise various concerns. The partner may be afraid of contracting venereal diseases, failure in an intimate, unplanned pregnancy situation. Potency can also be negatively affected by negative relationship situations, frequent quarrels or loss of attractiveness of the partner or partner. The factors connected with personality and its development should not be underestimated either. These include, but are not limited to, bad sexual experiences, small-member complexes, various sexual phobias, diminishing one's own attractiveness, unconscious or unfulfilled special preferences, and even negative attitudes towards sex caused by religious factors. Finally, long-term stress related to work or personal circumstances, for example, can result in erection problems.

Organic diseases

Many sexual problems also originate from diseases. In particular, we should pay attention to diseases related to the circulatory system (such as atherosclerosis or hypertension) or the hormonal system (thyroid diseases, hyperprolactinemia, hypogonadism, adrenal diseases). Beware of diabetes, excess cholesterol in the blood and metabolic syndromes. A history of stroke, liver failure and kidney failure can also be a problem. Drugs taken against hypertension and supporting blood circulation, hormonal, metabolic and psychotropic drugs also have a big influence on sexual life.

As you can see, the causes of potency problems are an extremely wide range of issues. In order to determine which of them affects you or a person close to you, you should look at your lifestyle and consult a doctor.
